Mission: To add a Star Wars presence to the annual Aviation Australia Careers Expo – an open day for the training centre featuring the Australian Airforce and other organisations, as well as a range of static aircraft on display.

Details:
Clear skies and the promise of a rich choice of potential Imperial and Rebel pilot recruitment saw a large gathering of Redbacks arrive early at the Aviation Australia training facilities.

Upon leaving the change area the troopers were naturally mobbed by old and young alike, and photos taken, more photos taken…and a few more photos taken. The staff were some of the biggest fans, it was a slow but fun walk between buildings.

While the Imperials and pesky Rebels had the same goal – recruitment – we naturally broke into two groups, the Imperials opting to scope out the buildings and the Rebels with clones headed for the tarmac apron to see the aircraft up close and see if anyone could bullseye Wamp Rats in a T-16. The short bus trip onto the apron was “interesting”!

Until a break at lunch troopers mingled amongst the patrons, questioning youngsters, looking for droids, testing out training facilities, interrogating staff, posing for photos, providing recruitment info (in all seriousness a lot of business cards were given out and quite a few chats about what we do were had with interested folks).

After a nutrition break and some speedy armour repairs by newly approved Commander Cody (and wow did Luke’s armour look good!) the groups swapped locations, the Imperials heading down to the tarmac on the Imperial ground transport to the aircraft, and the Rebels scoped out the training and chopper hangars. Tobalation’s jedi powers won over the dog bomb squad puppies and we identified the ‘Clone Drone’ as a potential new weapon.

After being out and being awesome for nearly 5 hours, dodging a few showers (the clones felt at home) troopers dekitted and most headed for a local cantina for a refreshing and well deserved adult cold beverage and galactic snacks.

As always a huge thanks to all that turned out to troop, wrangle and take photos – it was a really fun day. We made a great impact on the event, had a lot of fun ourselves, and provided a lot of interested folks with info about what we do.

Injuries / Malfunctions: Bolt has some ‘first wear’ repairs to do.

Public Incidents: NIL.

Mission Status: Success as always. The event itself was so well organised and run, our troopers fitted in well with the set up, and we all had a great time. Organisers were very responsive and thankful for our attendance and lets face it, we got to see some awesome aviation hardware ourselves. A great troop all round.
