On arrival, we immediately made contact with the local show secretary and did some reconnaissance over the troop area, including time spent talking with a specialist who had some of the local fauna on display, troopers Jacknife and Joker were keen observers, Stormybrite though, seemed to suddenly have business elsewhere when these came out of the bag….

Recon complete, we headed to our dressing area… (given the animals we’d just been watching we did a VERY careful check for them and other wildlife before kitting up)

A quick stop outside the dressing shed for a pre troop photo and it was off to inspect the show!

Mission Notes
Today was the first troop for the Wedgetail Squad, and it was right in the heartland of our region. Baralaba is a small rural and mining community roughly 2 hours driving time inland from Rockhampton, with a total population of less than 300 people, and the annual A&P Show is one of the highlights of the year for the community.

Many of our squad members come from small towns and farms ourselves, and knowing what a difference seeing something like this would have made for us as kids, we’ve made a commitment that when we get the chance, we’re going to make the extra effort to take Star Wars out to the little places in our region. Fittingly, we found this in the local displays on our pre troop walk around

We had fantastic support from the show society and the locals, and everyone was really friendly, we heard comments like "you guys are awesome" "that's amazing" "thank you so much for coming" and "this sort of stuff never happens here, wow!" for the whole time we trooped, with the most requested thing on the day not being a photo, but rather, “can I shake your hand?” The country spirit I remember from growing up is still alive and well out there, and more than a few locals were quite surprised when I shared stories of fishing on the banks of the Dawson River, which runs beside the town, for yellowbelly and saratoga as a kid with them from behind a stormtrooper’s helmet.

No incidents or malfunctions were reported, however trooper Jacknife was extremely lucky to escape severe disciplinary action from Stormybrite when he took her vehicle a little too close for comfort to a rather large member of the local bird population (a bustard) when it appeared unexpectedly from the roadside grass on the way home Aaaah

Great job Wedgies!!!… Doppeldaumen1 Hurrah Doppeldaumen1 Mission success!!! Doppeldaumen1Hurrah Doppeldaumen1
