Hi buddy, yah you can chose any character but there are CRL's that you will have to follow, the best person to chat to is Phantom send him a pm and he can point you in the right places and welcome aboard

Welcome.

What character would you like to build?

As Scorpion mentioned, to be approved as a 501st costume it will need to meet the requirements specified in the costume reference libraries (CRL), you can find them here:

hi guys thanks for the speedy reply . Thinking stormtrooper , although I did spot a cool vader outfit online but the more I read in these forums the more it sounds like it may not be suitable!!! it was $1000 mind!! How often do people meet up ?? in other words how often do I get to wear the outfit?? Is it a very social thing?

Dude you are looking at more like $6000 for an approvable Vader. What you saw would have been a rubies and is a Halloween costume that is not close to approvable. Number one rule: do not buy from ebay!

It's been a couple of years since I did mine but if you estimated $1500 including boots, undersuit, blaster etc you probably be close.

that's what I expected to pay, so whats the 1st step in buying/making a suit, the under garment looks straight forward enough but the rest of it look daunting!!

Just finished mine, cost about $932 Australian on the day of ordering it and then with glue rivet push rivets, Velcro and all the other things maybe just under $2000

$932 for the armor

Welcome! I'm new to this costuming hobby too and although it is a little daunting to begin with, you'll find plenty of help here. Have a look at this link:
http://www.501st.com/databank/Costuming:FISD_CRL
Have a read of the applicable CRL and then follow the link further to the FISD forums, which should answer many of your questions about the stormtrooper costume.

Hi there Danny.
Welcome to the forums. It looks like a lot of people have given you some good starting points.
For the armour you will need to jump onto FISD http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/ there you will find vetted resellers of Stormtrooper armour.
In the mean time have a read through this thread it will give you an indication on what is involved to become a member.
