Bolt's Z-6 Rotary Cannon build

Looks awesome mate, I'm loving the paint job on the ribbing to and you're not wrong it looks just like copper from here Wink
Frustrating on the snap though, glad you were able to suss out a better mod, at least that'll just be a quick fix on the CAD plans.
Keep up the great work Luke Doppeldaumen1

Quick update for today!

I've just about finished the handle and bracket. Just some little circles to be glued on to cover the screws.

Man this thing is getting big! Check it out compared to my DC-15A

Mate. That. Is. Awesome! Simply impressive now I can see the whole Blaster assembled. (I was very tempted to say "Impressive, most impressive" there Wink )
As for size, it is a mini gun after all, it's one;y fitting Smile

Thanks Jonah! And Vader references are to be expected from you...

Yesterday and Today's update!

I got the final coats of paint onto the business end and fitted my new bearing into the body of the blaster. I can finally finish all the electronics now as all the big stuff is done there.

And for your viewing pleasure I decided to make a "how to assemble the front end of a Z-6" series of photos!

#1 The parts. Includes (from top, left to right); Drive rod, non-rotating bearing, non-rotating disc, FWD Rotating disc, Rear rotating disc, Cap, cap mount, main Bearing, Barrel bracket and discs/cover.

#2 Barrels x6

#3 Insert non-rotating bearing into rear rotating plate

#4 Slide drive rod through non-rotating bearing and tighten up the screws

#5 Attach FWD Rotating plate to drive rod and tighten screws

#6 It should now look like this

#7 Put the Cap onto the cap mount and slide into FWD rotating disc.

#8 Slide in the first 2 barrels and push so that they seat evenly in the rear rotating disc. Fit is tight so no glue is required.

#9 Insert the discs/cover by clams-shelling it over the drive rod. No glue is required because the barrels hold it centered and cover the split.

#10 Finish inserting the barrels

#11 Slide on the Barrel bracket (again no glue)

#12 It should now look like this!

#13 Attach the main bearing onto the non-rotating plate

Note the cut out and hole

#14 Attach onto the rear rotating disc. The hole in the non-rotating disc is so that you can poke the screws through to go into the disc. Otherwise assemble would be darn near impossible!

#15 Line up the barrels with the body of the blaster. It is easiest to do this with the blaster standing on its end in a vertical position.

#16 Attach the screws into the non-rotating plate

#17 Insert the brace and do up the bolts and nuts

#18 Tighten up the grub screws on the (new) internal bearing

#19 Tighten up the chuck on the drill

#20 Slide on the cover and handle and you are done!!

Phew!! That's it for today Smile

Mate, now that is awesome.
Now that the front half is painted up, that black really is setting the whole thing off nicely. Keep up the great work!

Thanks Sly! This is the first ever blaster that I have put together so I'm kinda making it up as I go along!

Today's update!

Got stuck into the handle mounting. Now this was important as the 2 bolts I used not only hold on the handle system but also stop the internal tray from sliding out from the casing. I used 2 wing-nuts mounted in the tray as the anchors for the bolts. I just used a dremel with a cutting disc and router bit and a chisel, add some glue and you are done!

Ignore the messy scratch the router bit tried to run away!

Outside view, bolts stick out from the base of the blaster but shouldn't be too noticeable Smile

Oh and here's a present for you Jonah: the first time I have spun the blaster carrying it.

On that bombshell, that's it for today!!

You certainly didn't disappoint man! Very impressive!
Almost time to take down some Clankers Wink

I can't get over how impressive it looks, and I don't know if you've got the sound effects going and if it doesn't yet it sounds brilliant just with the real life noises it makes anywayDoppeldaumen1

I couldn't agree more! I actually don't have any sound affects going yet, that is the sound that it naturally makes!

Thank you and thank you!

Today/this weeks update!

I have been slowly getting all the wiring done in the handle and hooking up the sound card to the triggers, yes trigger(s). I decided a little last minute to have two sound triggers on the handle so you could choose different sounds, instead of having the same one all the time. So I mounted two momentary switches to the top of the handle and hooked them up to the sound board.

So now the AFT section of the blaster looks like this:
I have run a total of six wires up the handle and hooked up the main power and one of the selectable sounds to red switches on the rear face of the blaster. But since there are two sounds now one of them doesn't have a "Safety switch" on the rear of the blaster... oh well! Maybe something to add later, but it won't effect operation.

All wiring is done now! Phew finally. Just a bit of playing around with sounds on the computer now (I have to disable all security programs on my laptop to get the sound card programming software to work, should I be worried!?!)

Anyways, I got the 'sight' all drawn out from the plans, cut out and assembled today:

I modified it just a little bit to be out of the way of the spinning barrels and to compensate for my big lazy-susan bearing.

I also got the rear cover fins cut out and painted (again paint looks brown, not copper on my phone) so they can go on tomorrow hopefully, along with the sight.

So that's it for today!!

Almost there man Wink
I'm impressed alone with how much gear you've been able squeeze into this! I struggled enough doing a simple LED circuit with switch for my Belt Boxes so I've very much enjoyed seeing someone do some brilliant wire work... in addition to the blaster itself of course Smile
