Cosplay help
#1
Hey one and all, been meaning to get around and signing up to you guys. You guys always look amazing in numbers at Cons. I have done many cosplays involving fabrics but never armour related. I am hoping to cosplay Shae Vizla sometime in near future. Was wondering if I can get any tips to point me in right direction to start off in? Be helpful if you could recommend material types and tools needed. Funny how redheads seem to make the best bounty hunters Wink

Well that's not going to be easy build, good luck.
You could go with something easier to get approved and get trooping whilst you work on your other project.
Lots of us have secret projects we're working on shhhhhh

As far as I'm aware no one currently makes that type of armour or bucket so it would be a lot of work and time to complete that costume.
Although if you're set on bringing it to life these are what I think would work for making the parts:
- helmet resin cast, with all the detailed extras cast separately
- most of the armour vacuum formed with abs plastic, resin casts for the high detailed pieces
- leather for the pouch

Signing up on thebhg.net is also probably a good idea, as that is the detachment for Bounty hunters (it is fairly quiet tho)
The dented helmet is probably also another good forum for bounty hunters

Hope this helps Smile

Welcome to the Redbacks Spitfire, Shae Vizlar uses a variation of "old" mandolorian armour known as mandolorian crusader armour. I had brief look on the 501st boards but couldn't find much on her there but since she is a mandolorian there is some info on her on their boards at http://mercs.firespray.net/forum/index.php?action=forum . As for materials if there is not a set of armour you can get hold off I have been looking into using Worbla ( a thermoplastic ) to make some armour for myself.

We often have armour parties ( next one is on the 18th of May ) and that may be a good chance for you to see how to put armour together, and help with your build. Hopefully we can entice you to join us in some sort of Imperial armour as well but feel free to drop by and ask questions.

Welcome to the forum. You're tackling a big costume for your first so best of luck with your research. As others have said it might be an option to do a more simple soft costume in the meantime to get approved and trooping.

It's good to be passionate about your first armor choice to keep you keen when the going get's slow.

Looking forward to meeting you.

Cheers

Welcome to the forums Spitfire.

Will be a pretty cool costume!! Try RPF Replica Prop Forum and THD The Dented Helmet there should be some suff floating around there for Shae.

Good luck and if you have any questions just ask we are a pretty friendly bunch.

Hi and welcome!

To my knowledge, there are only a handful of scratchbuilt Shae's in the world.

As Benji said, you could check out The Dented Helmet, but the Mando Mercs too - http://mercs.firespray.net/forum/index.p...ic=26453.0 (This is a particularly beautiful scratchbuild.. but you may need to create an account to see the thread)

Good luck!

ps- just remembered, I actually have a photo with the owner of that build thread from C6
