I am at the same stage as yourself. Recently joined the Garrison and about to order my 1st armour.
What I found was that if you email the suppliers on the list they are very helpful with availability, pricing and in some instances sizing/options..
Ask LOTS of questions on here and the white armour forums as well.
As for troops.. I have done one so far as a wrangler and it was a blast.
