Hi Rob
Welcome
Sounds like you're well underway with your costumes.
Tell us a bit about yourself, where are you based and how did you come across the Redbacks?
What costume kits have you acquired? Build threads (with pics using a photobucket account) are always a good thing to do for new starters as the seasoned members with the same costumes/experience can assist as many have 'been there done that, had that issue'.
Best of luck with your builds!

Welcome Rob its always good to ask questions and we should be able to answer most or all of them for you.

To help find further information to help with your sourcing of these costumes look at joining the following groups for stormtroopers
http://www.whitearmor.net
for Bikerscouts http://www.bikerscout.net and for Fett http://thebhg.net .

Also if you get a chance come along to an event we are attending and introduce yourself, there is good chance that there will be some of those costumes their and you ask the guys what goes into making theirs.

Hi Rob, and welcome. Please share the progress of your costumes. It's good to get opinions of other people in the know of the costume(s) you are working on for hints and tips on where to source the items you need. And to see if what you are doing is right. Nothing worse than getting told at the last minute that your costume isn't up to scratch Smile

Thanks for the welcome guys. With my costumes I have sourced these from specialist companies overseas (not eBay) and I have done an insane amount of research going in to these costumes to ensure they meet 501st specs. The Stormtrooper and Boba Fett are from the UK and they Biker Scout is from the USA. I am confident that all meet and in most cases exceed the minimum standard required by the 501st. Having said that I will definitely submit photos of the costumes as required by 501st guidelines.

A bit more about me. I am currently living on the Gold Coast and I work in the Hinterland. In about 2 weeks time I will have been with my employer for 25 years. I have been in to this for as long as I can remember and now am in a position to commit my time and resources to sourcing costumes and getting involved. I feel there is no better place to get started than with like minded people. I have been aware of the 501st for years and have seen what you guys do at Supernovas and the like and I would now like to be part of it.

If you are planning on purchasing your TK from original stormtrooper it may pay to think again ...

Some light reading for you ...

Thanks Bullant. I have read that forum and countless others and it appears that advice and guidance from people in the US is very anti-Ainsworth and most external to the USA are more objective in their opinions. More research required on my part I think. To be honest Original Stormtrooper is the front runner.

Welcome.

If you're unsure about certain pieces of costume and armour, make sure you check with us first. We'd hate for you to buy expensive pieces, and find out they are not approvable.

Sounds like you're going to have a nice collection of costumes. Doppeldaumen1

Welcome!

TM and RS are the most accurate TK makers, both from the UK. They blow SDS out of the water as far as accuracy is concerned.

Jaggered has an SDS suit and doesn't wear it as it is slowly falling apart/cracking everywhere. It is approvable but like Sean said, there are better suits out there Smile

Hello & welcome to the RBG.
I no longer frequent the boards as I use to & so I find it somewhat ironic since here I am & I'm mentioned as I read your thread, lol.
As Paney has said, my TK is SDS Wink
I'm not 100% sure if you've gone the with the same armour but your post seems to hint as such.

Reasons why you buy a specific set is obviously up to the individual but I don't mind to admit buying a SDS set myself, was a mistake.
Why?
The website states "it's made from ABS" & in all honesty I disagree with this statement.
ABS would not crack, 6 odd cm along your right thigh when all you did was simply bend down at the waist to pick up a pair of boots... honestly, wtf??? lol
Apart from this it's the only problem I've had with this particular set of armour however, point to note. When this occurred the armour would have been lucky to have been 9 months old so yes, total BS!!!
Hard lesson but you roll with it & I'm extremely careful not that I wasn't when I bent down, while wearing SDS.

I also sport a TD & this particular set of armour is ABS, flexable & totally different to my SDS armour which is really HIPS so I certainly know the difference.

I've recently purchased a RS Prop Masters bucket, (helmet). Should arrive in a few weeks & a little more down the road will buy the rest of the armour "lite kit".
They offer ABS or PVC, I decided to go with the PVC type soley because it's more harder wearing than ABS... taking it at their word, lol... they also state it's a bit more shiny Wink
