Somethings not right in Kansas Dorothy , never had a can failure let alone two , feel free to swing past or message me a couple of photos , make sure the nozzles are fully seated as that is the only time of seen anything close to what you are describing or just ring when you have an issue.

7Tate to the rescue! Went back and grabbed a couple of these tins:

Faster flow rate and slightly smaller spray radius, but it worked a treat and I got a far more even layer all over.

Will leave it to cure for a day and then move to the brown on the grip and stock before weathering and touch-ups.

After letting the paint dry completely for a day or so, I then started masking up in preparation for painting the stock and grip. I also tried to mask some of the finer details that I wanted to keep as black (or silver) – the indent on the base of the stock, the 8 screws on the grip and the screw on the butt.

I masked the fine lines and covered the rest with newspaper and started to apply a series of thin layers of brown.

Once the brown was touch dry, I carefully removed the paper and tape and I will let the brown dry for another 24 hours before I do any more work on it.

There was a couple of very small areas where I didn’t mask well enough and a light dusting of brown came through, but I will be able to fix that up with some judicious weathering.

After consulting a couple of experts – Cyclops and Cueloopz – I was steered towards the technique of Dry Brushing for the weathering effects I wanted.

I chose Humbrol Silver for weathering on black and Humbrol Black for weathering the stock and the muzzle. Using a fine hair brush I dry brushed the silver onto anywhere where I thought wear and tear might take place on the barrel. Having never done this before I was a bit ham-fisted, so tried to use the “less is more’ principle.

Weathering of the muzzle and the stock complete. I replicated the dry-brushing technique using a soft rag and black paint in order to ‘dirty up’ the brown grip and stock and stock, and the silver muzzle.

The Aluminium rod I had been using as a temporary insert to maintain the straightness of the barrel I now replaced with a chrome rod. I found some aluminium tubing which would fit inside the chrome rod and riveted it inside the rod to provide additional strength.

Rod inserted and glued; muzzle attached, bolt attached as well as the conical disc on the grip.

Letting all the gluing dry for 24 hours and then I will be able to finally assemble it for the first time!
