Stopped! Now modding a Woodchuck. Republic Commando DC-17 Refurb and Alteration - Oevil1 - Sunday 29-Mar-2015 As you all know Whitey is doing a fantastic job on his Republic Commando "Scorcher" armour. So he has given me the pleasure of refurbishing and modifying his mystery made DC-17 into the Anit Armour edition. This prop is made mostly of resin filled with expanding foam. While a lot of work and research has gone into this prop, it does lack the essential details like straight lines and carefully created details. So I need to get the above prop to look like this... I started out by breaking it down completely and taking off smaller details followed by squaring up the main body so that more accurate details can be added later. I also removed the detail on the left hand side that will eventually become a hinged cover. Watch this space...more to come RE: Republic Commando DC-17 Refurb and Alteration - Cyclops - Sunday 29-Mar-2015 It will look magnificent as all your armoury projects do . RE: Republic Commando DC-17 Refurb and Alteration - TerrorFirma - Monday 30-Mar-2015 Looking good mate, subscribing to this! Terror RE: Republic Commando DC-17 Refurb and Alteration - major payne - Monday 30-Mar-2015 Love your work Tim, as always top shelf stuff! Will you be casting the finished product? RE: Republic Commando DC-17 Refurb and Alteration - Oevil1 - Monday 30-Mar-2015 Thanks guys! I won't be casting this one...too big a blaster and not much demand for it. RE: Republic Commando DC-17 Refurb and Alteration - Whitey - Monday 30-Mar-2015 Looking good Tim. Can't wait to see it finished. And thanks again for doing this. You are the master. Cheers, Whitey RE: Republic Commando DC-17 Refurb and Alteration - TerrorFirma - Tuesday 31-Mar-2015 (Monday 30-Mar-2015, 10:52 AM)Oevil1 Wrote: Thanks guys! Terror RE: Republic Commando DC-17 Refurb and Alteration - Oevil1 - Monday 6-Apr-2015 This project is certainly going to be a challenging one! To those of you who are not in the know, or are a little impatient or lazy...the following actions are not what people would or should be paying for... *Edges that are supposed to look like machine precision edges actually look like a dogs hind leg. *Painting over resin, plastic of timber with no primer. *Painting over wet bog. *Using paint as a filler. *Passing off pricey resin objects with too many bubbles in them! *Gluing straight onto paint. *Not rinsing mould release off resin parts before painting. Any-hoooooo, that's my gripe. Today was more paint stripping, sanding and bogging. RE: Republic Commando DC-17 Refurb and Alteration - MammaSith - Monday 6-Apr-2015 Good pointers there Brother, I know when it's finished Whiety will love it lots Republic Commando DC-17 Refurb and Alteration - badman - Monday 6-Apr-2015 Swiss cheese !! RE: Republic Commando DC-17 Refurb and Alteration - Oevil1 - Sunday 12-Apr-2015 Started on a new handle. The trouble with this one is that the main body is full of expanding foam and the resin is not thick enough to safely secure a handle to take all the weight of the blaster. I came up with a method that once it is glued and screwed into place, it should hold up really well. I started out by modding one of my SE-14r blaster. Next was the template to attached the handle too that will then be fastened to the main body of the blaster. You'll see that I also reduced weight where I can by cutting out any unwanted resin. Before I fasten anything I need to work out the wiring for all the electronics that came with the blaster. So I started by designing a trigger that will be part of the design. It will eventually have a true trigger over the micro switch made from metal.
