Toowoomba Hospital Foundation – Teddy Bear’s picnic

Date: 01/06/19

Mission: To entertain the crowds and search for teddy bears

On a cold, windy Toowoomba morning (“Feels like” temp of 5℃) The T-bar troopers; Bolt, Scotty and Snips, arrived at Queen’s park. Scotty, who was dressed to look like a hobo to scare off drivers and save a parking space for Bolt, arrived first.

Pointing our vehicles in a good direction for us to get changed out the back of them, we then went and met Libby, our event organizer. Crowds looked quite scarce as we had a look around the stage and tents set up so we spent some time inspecting the local costumes, which unfortunately resulted in us seeing a particular bear with a “Wedgie” possibly scaring us for life.

Heading back to suit up, Snips’ assistance was invaluable. We began our patrol, taking many photos with the crowds. We were ushered onstage for an introduction which I’m sure we quite amusing!

We met the local fire department mascot and generally had a good time as the crowds got much larger than first expected.
Big thanks to Scotty and Snips for this one! I’m glad I didn’t have to troop alone!

Mission Status: Success!!

09:45 – Arrived and met the event organizer. We waited a few mins for the crowds to build up a little before we started trooping.
10:15 – Suited up at our cars. My Jeep is great to suit up out of the back of, just saying :P
10:30 – After trooping for a while we had quite a line up for photo’s!
10:40 – We went up onstage and were introduced to everybody
11:50 – We finished up and de-kitted

Total crying count: 5 (Only 5! That’s not bad)

Malfunctions/injuries: The grey stripe on my left knee strap broke but was repaired enough to troop.
Public incidents: None!

Initial impressions weren’t great with the weather and lowish crowd numbers but ended up being a really fun troop as the weather warmed up and more people came.
Given the target age of 2-5 only having 5 kids cry wasn’t too bad!
