Legions first approved Death Trooper

I merely ask because obviously this has been brought to the Legions knowledge. I have yet to see anyone who wishes the Deathtrooper in the Legion besides stormtrooperguy. This should be taken to the legion and a vote should be held by members of the legion to see where everyone stands on the issues because this is a quite serious topic that many people feel strongly on.

I know of another Garrison that has posted it on their forum.

I like where you're going with that Azza Doppeldaumen1, however it could be a bad idea. Remember how things went down with the election changes, you could see the same thing again. only a few hundred votes by people who not only care, but are actually informed in time to vote.

The biggest problem I have with this costume is that it should never have existed in the first place. Zombies in the Star Wars universe is just ridiculous and completely inappropriate. Whats next vampires that sparkle? Zombies don't fit in the 501st and they don't fit in the Rebel legion because they don't fit in to Star Wars at all. It is once again LF screwing with what we love to make some money.

You are the only ones we are discussing with about this at this time.

To clarify a couple of things: I am in no way the deathtrooper pioneer or principal advocate.

The initial submissions back in June 2010 were NOT me. Those were 2 other troopers who were deferred for revisions.

Deathtroopers have been representing the 501st at LFL official events dating back to June 2009 when the first requests came in:

http://www.501st.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=23734

We've even had zombie stormtrooper mission reports posted on the Legion home page going back to 2009:

http://www.501st.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=27436

There was a 9 page discussion back in August of this year about them on the Legion forum:

http://www.501st.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=65505

The opinion was very split on it. Some were enthusiastically for, others just as passionate against.

In the end, these quotes from GMLs on the GML forum sum it up well for me:

Quote:We cannot, in all fairness, except every other EU costume that has three references and exclude this one because it is slightly more gruesome than others.

Quote:If it meets criteria for EU approval, which it does, and they are accurate and done to the quality standards we expect then it would be unfair not to accept them just because they're not everyone's cup of tea, that just wouldn't be cricket.

Quote:I don't see a problem with Death Troopers ( as there are enough canon refs for them ) but, as it's allready been said, common sense would suggest that this would be a 'convention' type costume and should maybe not be allowed at certain events.

That last one is why we have this in the deathtrooper CRL draft:

Quote:Please note that this particular costume may not be welcome at all 501st events. Please contact your garrison CO/GML with any questions if you are planning to create one.

I don't want to beat this conversation to death... I think I've done all I can to explain the history of the decision and why we feel that it is in keeping with the costuming approval guidelines:

http://www.501st.com/databank/Costuming:...erApproval

To me, one of the great things about the diversity we offer in costuming is that there is something for everyone. Those who wish to stick to the Imperial only costumes can. Those who like to make obscure background cantina aliens can. Those who enjoy bringing to life comics, video games, TV shows or any other facet of Star Wars have a place in the Legion.

We've tried to find a middle ground: Allow the costume in for the advocates of it. Set the standards to be relatively moderate (no blood) to try to keep things relatively pleasant, and allow the CO discretion in not allowing them to troop at events.

Some regions are sure to have a bunch of them, other regions are sure to have none. In the end we'll all keep trooping exactly as we have been.

People have been wearing zombie troopers/officers/etc... for years under the 501st banner. All we're doing now is applying some rules to it.

There was a 9 page discussion on the Legion board back in August started by one of the people LFL asked to make a deathtrooper to help them with their promotions:

http://www.501st.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=65505

In that thread there was a mix of people for and against. The thread was split pretty evenly between people who did and did not want the costume added.

Those who did not cited the appropriateness of the character.

Those who did want it cited that it met all the same criteria as other characters in the Legion already.

So Deathtroopers have been officially representing the 501st

The stormtrooper detachment has a section on the forum dedicated to them:
