Hello there!

Hello 501st Team yay!
I've been fans of 501st for very long time. I didn't know there is such a group or team of 501st out there in QLD, wooot!! I just found out recently in DreamWorld's facebook and yes we have attended with my kids dressing in costumes. I must say. Wow! Fantastic works! Well done Troopers!
Opps let me introduce myself. My name is Amre, friends called me Nic as nickname aka Nicriss. I'm a Male, 35 yrs old and also I'm a hearing impairment, you may say I'm deaf.
I've been playing SWTOR (Star wars Republic Online) for a year as a Republic side because of friends...Sorry guys lol then I've stopped, I would very much prefer 501st's time in SWTOR, not 3k years before the event of Vader. I'm sure you guys/gals agrees.
I've also encouraged my kids about Star Wars, guess what? They loves it! My 3 yrs old son love Storm Trooper and wanted to wear Storm Trooper costume.
I would love to join 501st however I could not afford for thousands bucks on High Quality costume, again however, I would like to join a team if there's a spot.
May the Force serve you well

Hi Nicriss! Congratulations on jumping onto the forums! It sounds like you are very passionate.
If you want to get involved but don't want to splash the cash on hard armour then an imperial officer or tie pilot reserve are your best bets, they are cheaper and easier than most everything else.
I'm sure someone will be along soon to tell you more Smile
You've taken your first step into a larger world.

Welcome to the forums Nicriss! Haak's right, there are quite a few costumes that won't break the budget.

Take a look at the Costume Reference Library http://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:CRL and decide which Star Wars character you'd like to tackle

Buying them in kit form works out cheaper but you have to build it yourself. Added advantage to that is that you get to tailor the fit to make it look and feel just right. Not sure of the pros/cons of the pre-made armours (such as Anovos) but i do know you pay extra to buy those. Myself, I'm going with a TIE Pilot and I'm getting my armour from Walts Trooper Factory. He also does stormtrooper armour but you'd be better off asking on the FISD forums about other manufacturers as well because not all kits are the same. The more research you do, the less likely you'll be disappointed when your purchase arrives in the mail.

Hi Nicriss and welcome to the Redback Forums.

Mate if you are on a budget check out the TIE Pilot:Reserve
It is where many of us start out and it is pretty cheap.
I will post a list for you later when I get home on parts required and where you can get them.

The best part is, you get involved and in costume easily and you can upgrade to full pilot armour as time and funds permit.

If this is something you are interested in then come on over to the Jolly Roger Squadron, the worldwide home of TIE Pilots www.jrs501st.com

Also if you want to get involved even faster the come along as a wrangler/helper. Meet some of ya in oerson and just help out. Check out the events link and see what we are up to and come along and introduce yourself

Cheers

Hi there Nic.
We can always use good wranglers and support staff. If your kids have costumes they can sign up for the Galactic Academy http://www.galactic-academy.net/

If you are looking for a cheapish costume there are always Imperial Officers, Imperial Crewman, Reserve Tie Pilots. There are soft costumes and are relatively cheap compared to hard armour like storm troopers.

Or just have a browse through all the costumes:

Have a read over this thread to give you an indication on the membership process:

I hope this helps.

Enjoy and remember to ask loads of questions, stay clear of ebay.

Hey Nicriss!!
Welcome!!!!
As mentioned above there are options you have- such a passion should be shared and you will be in great company!
Wranglers (helpers) are always needed and appreciated, this also can give u the opportunity to check out our costumes and become familiar with what is required. The Galactic Academy would be great for ur kids too. And... There are cheaper costumes also. My TK has cost me about $1500 similar to Haak- we went with the same supplier too. You don't have to spend it all in one hit tho and you can save and build in stages as ur budget allows but still being involved as a wrangler.
Don't be afraid to ask the guys on here any questions- they are awesomely fantastic!!!!
Good luck!!!
