Hey all,
I'm glad to be a newie! I'm glad to be apart of something great as you guys are and share the same love for SW as I do.

Could someone be kind enough to point me in the right direction to check if a suit I've had for a while now meets the standards of the 501st legions requirements

Thank you
Jordan

Hi Jordan,

Welcome! Have a look here:

http://501st.com.au/join-the-501st-legion/

And in particular the Costume Reference Libraries (CRLs) are listed here:

http://www.501st.com/databank/Costuming:CRL

You just need to select the appropriate section for your costume.

Welcome Gothix if you love of Star Wars you'll fit in well around here.

So what suit do you have? The Costume guidelines can found here http://www.501st.com/databank/Costuming:CRL and there are also detachments which can help you out as well.

If you are free this weekend there will be 30 - 40 of us going to the Gold Coast SupaNova, and on the 4th - 5th of May we will have over 100 of us attending at our DreamWorld event. So if you can make it these would be some great opportunities to see a whole range of costumes up close.

I'm from Brisbane and I work at supernovas and comic ons I'll be at gold coast working this week. I've been in love with star wars since I was 3. I bought a darth Vader suit from an american online commercial site I'm not sure its as high quality as the guidelines though. This is the link sadly I paid much more than this though.http://www.officialstarwarscostumes.com/darth-vader-costumes/adult-darth-vader-costumes/99909877

A bit about me. Well again I've loved the movies of star wars since I was young my mother brought me up on them and it was my first sci-fi introduction I've ever had and I'm glad! I have a couple of start wars tattoos and and booked in for a sleeve soon. I'm 21 and brought my girlfriend into the love of star wars as well. I don't know much more I can say about me I work as a manager in a retail store but I work at supernova at a store called Wicked Stuff.

I'm not a Vader expert, but I'm pretty sure that is a Rubies and needs to be almost completely replaced to be approvable. But muppet or Kev will be able to tell you for certain.

Welcome to the Forum. Unfortunately you'll have a lot of work ahead of you to get that Rubies up to approvable status, but on the plus side it would look awesome on display on a mannequin in your lounge room.

Call past the booth if you get a chance on the weekend it would be nice to meet you. Looks like you've got come awesome gear at the store (after a quick look though the website), might have to come and have a look at some of it in person over the weekend sometime.

Thanks for the reply, I'm just on a little break from work. If I where to build a costume what would it cost roughly Darth Vader ROJ & keep my old one for fun rather then upgrading it.
I look forward to meeting you Saturday or Sunday what name do I ask for?

Come and have a talk to Vader on the weekend, but from what I've heard you are looking at many thousands to build an approvable vader. And depending on how much you troop a considerable amount to keep it going (batteries, ice for cool suit etc).

Vader is an awesome costume, but as said before will be very expensive. Some parts can also be difficult to source but for all things sith lord related check out the sith lords detachment

I'm not so worried about price I'd just prefer to know how much I would need. Sounds like a tough thing to get parts. I'm gathering you don't buy them from one person?

Thanks again for everyones help.

and yeah this suit is rubies, the only vader you would want to attempt to do using this costume would be ROTS vader. Although just about everything on this costume needs to be replaced or heavily modified to make it approvable. I used to have one of these that I was considering trying to modify, but I the end I got rid of it because you're better off just starting from scratch. As mentioned Muppet and Kev Vader are our Vader's and will be your best POC for Vader related. But in all reality you're probably looking at around $3k give or take for a Vader
