Details: This is a great event for the local Downs Syndrome community for children and their families to enjoy. Troopers assembled to kit up in the adjacent Powerhouse Museum carpark under a canopy of damp and falling Jacaranda blossoms on a nice cool afternoon. As always we caused quite a stir marching through the park to the event by the river. A wonderful reception by the children and families assembled for the event, troopers quickly assimilated into the friendly and curious crowd. The troopers were invited to hold the banner and lead the group in a short walk along the river, several troopers attracting admiring younglings who insisted on holding hands and walking along. Upon return, troopers mingled with the children and their families, posed for photos, played soccer and some were co-ordinated enough to participate in the sing-a-long and games.
Troopers eventually disentangled themselves from the event to walk back to de-kit. This took well over 40 minutes, as there were 3 wedding parties to photobomb, and 2 other formal gatherings and a Birthday party at the Powerhouse, not to mention the dozens of random citizens lining up for pics with the mobile Star Wars crew. It took some serious effort to finally disentangle ourselves from the adoring public to return to our cars to de-armour, before returning to the event, where the organisers had kindly saved us refreshments.
After a good break and chat, some troopers departed for home and others to the Merthyr Bowls Club for a refreshing post-troop beverage and some great re-telling of the wedding photos (there will be some good stories at those receptions), before the Kamino rains set in and folks set out for home.
A big thanks to Rhino and his mum Gai for coming up from Tweed Heads to troop and Kiwigirl and Alrakis for their great wrangling and photos.
Injuries / Malfunctions: Nil
Public Incidents: NIL bar some very surprised bridal parties and Imperial citizens in the park!
Mission Status: Great success. Mission accomplished. A big thanks to all that came along for a great and worthy afternoon’s troop.
Photos:
Thank you to Alrakis for his usual great photo taking, used with his permission.
Time to troop…
A great event as always
These are the babies you’re looking for!
The Powerhouse walls made a good Mos Eisley backdrop!
