Update:

Camo is 90% complete, I spent the day painting. First applying the brown, then blending it with the green using several shades of green and brown. I've used almost every trick in the book, airbrushing the main shapes, hand brushing fine details, sponging to blend colours.. was a lot of work! I'm fairly pleased with the results.

Yeah mate looking good. I particularly like the helmet. Coincidentally I'm looking for a transport container. What are you using there?

Thanks mate, I use Bunker boxes for all my suits. You can find them at Bunnings Smile

Nice job Bolt , you’ve done a really good job of dealing with the colour blends and negative space .

Made some great progress today!

I clear coated all my armour with MTN 94 Acrylic Varnish. I used the matt finish and when it dried you can hardly tell it was applied, just slightly more shiny when the armour is in the sun. Two coats of that and all my hard work is protected from scratching. Clear coats are absolutely necessary!

Taped up the visor with low tact tape because I was too eager and put it in before I was done painting  Rolleyes

In other news! My amazing wife Snips sewed the leg pouches on my pants, we had to resize them to be proportional to my body. Some build threads I've read on the Pathfinders page say you can just move the cargo pockets to the front... yeh nah! Waaaay too big. (

Pic is from before we added velcro closure)

Snips also sewed velcro closure to replace the top button of my shirt and added a neck seal/sash that closes off around the collar, I bought a second shirt and cut the collar off of it, attaching it to the main collar and adding velcro closure.
Very very pleased with this!

We also sewed the arms so they are a tighter fit. The shirt had huuuuuuuge baggy arms which would look stupid with armour over them.

Very happy for an afternoon's work! Now to dye the shirt and pants and onto the cummerbund.

Made some more progress today

I designed the greeblies for the shins and upper arm in AutoDesk and printed them during the week. Today I mounted them and the straps.
I admit I went a bit crazy with the weathering on the straps... but hey if they were my boots they certainly wouldn't be a clean as the ones pictured in the CRL!

For the shins there were 2 greeblies per side. A small clip and a large one.

The CRL shows the large clip with an extra semicircle tab on the bottom of the greeblie, from the Bluray stills and magazine images I have (as you can see below) it isn't present, so I left it off.

Next up is the left bicep, I glued on the straps and added my "Com paks" (Courtney called them that and I like it.. so I'm using it)

On the reverse side of the bicep I noticed another discrepancy in the CRL. They forget to mention the grey box present there.

You can clearly see it in this freeze frame:

Currently working on the back plate, using ABS sludge to sturdy up the shoulder straps. Then it will be onto the tank detail panel!
That's all for now  Doppeldaumen1

Been making slow, constant progress over the last weeks.

Mostly been dying the undersuit; these images are after 1 brown pass.

[Image: 51661445920_c3c22cd49f_z.jpg]  [Image: 51660571636_fd263a04df_z.jpg][/url]

So far I have done:

1 brown pass, 1 brown pass, 1 black pass on the pants and a half on the shirt, and now I've done another brown pass on both.

It's looking like it should be perfect now, I will upload images when the undersuit dries tomorrow.

In other news, my boots are done! I applied a few coats on the shoes to get rid of that wierd pink colour and then kinda took some liberties in the weathering.
I really wanted them to look a bit muddy and not so clean.

Also working on the chest piece in the mean time, so keeping progress happening  Peace

Small update! I did a test fit of the shins and boots after I glued the caps on and added velcro to keep the shins in place. Also did a temp fit of the knees.

[Image: 51677560056_0320f5be89_z.jpg]  [Image: 51678439305_0c35d4e829_z.jpg]

I have had success hiding the stitching on the pants using a brown sharpie. So they have dissapeared -phew- got to work on those front pouches however, the sewn up button hole on the flap did not dye so some mods to happen there.

Didn't have a lot of time to work on the Kashyyyk this weekend (going to be less and less time as we get closer to Christmas).

But I did strap the shoulder bells and biceps for a duct-tape test this afternoon;

Time for a big update on my Kashyyyk Trooper build!

My incredible wife and I spent the last 3 days smashing out this costume and here are our results!

The first challenge was the Cummberbund. As I showed much eariler in the build thread we had this grey/brown coloured fabric that we matched at Spotlight with the movie still pictured in the "Star Wars the helmet collection" magazine.

You will also note that the Cummerbund varies from the CRL in three distinct ways:

1. It is the large, verticle sections that stick out, not the thin ones.
2. It is all the same colour. Not a gray base with evenly-spaced dark gray vertical straps.
3. There is no "webbing material" it is all made from the same material.

Also note the ribbing on the belt and small verticle sections.

To begin we made the main section out of stiffener

Then inserted this into the material

Then Snips sewed down the sides of all the raised sections and added velcro for closure and for the rubber belt.

We did a test fit with all the boxes

To mount the rubber belt I cut slits into the rubber and threaded a piece of velcro through the loops. This helped in 2 ways as it gave a glue-free way to mount the belt and it saved me painting black in all the squares.

I broke the belt Sad but thankfully it will be hidden by all the boxes and strap for the drop boxes.

Next up was the main belt on the cummerbund, Snips created this in the same method, but sewed pieces of wool onto the stiffener to create the ribbing present on the belt. Adding black pieces to the center also. She was a little upset it didn't come out 100% perfect, but I think she did a fantastic job.

[Image: 51799918742_a5a3fe541c_z.jpg]  [Image: 51799918682_1f27049d1a_z.jpg]  [Image: 51800860861_dd65e08002_z.jpg]

Lastly was the weathering to match the reference image (a brown/red colour and black). Snips added velcro to stick the boxes too and more ribbing details also by sewing small lines in the small vertical sections in the places they will be visable.

Next up I got into some painting

Attaching the shoulder straps and mounting the tank detail plate I then painted both. Please note my phone camera makes the colours of my armour look out of wack, the yellow specifically. When I take photos with the Cannon the colours look heaps better.

I also added the black strip to the tank

Again in difference to the CRL which pictures a black "U" shape on the back of the tank, I only put on a horizontal stripe. I simply could not find a single screen shot that shows a full "U" shape. I can only see a single, black stripe.

The next challenge was the belt boxes. The CRL states "Pouches have camo pattern" which is pretty funny and unspecific.

As you can see in the above image, the two center back pouches are a dark grey colour (almost the same as the cummerbund) and have dark brown and green camo lines.
The two tall boxes either side of those have a white base with dark green and brown lines.

So that is how I painted them:

The front boxes appear to change from trooper to trooper in the movie. So I used this image as inspiration.

One box has a darker base and dark markings with white splotches and the other has a pale green base, dark green markings and white/brown splotches.
The top left small box looks to have a light green base with both dark and light brown splotches. Using those screen-grabs as inspiration I painted all the boxes.

The drop boxes also appear to be the same white base/dark markings as the rear two tall boxes.

While I was painting, Snips was hard at work sewing my riding patches, velcro and elastic onto my undersuit. Putting all this together I did a test fit.

For the side closure on the chest I again differed from the CRL slightly. The CRL states that "Armor joins flush on the sides".

I noticed that in one or two images there appears to be a tab or clip on the back plate hanging off a strap.

And my statue has a grey clip present there:

So I made a grey tap, sewed it to a piece of elastic and used it to secure my chest/back together. The elastic permits them to stretch open which makes it far more comfortable.

This is similar the the BF2 model (although this is to be taken with a grain of salt as the BF2 Kashyyyk is not exactly the same as the ROTS Kashyyyk trooper).

After doing yet more adjustments to my undersuit, I was ready for my first full suit up!

[Image: 51800111202_5f5de739ae_z.jpg]   [Image: 51801053481_1a90378c9c_z.jpg]   [Image: 51800110987_5a32499988_z.jpg]

[Image: 51800110252_34d6348602_z.jpg]   [Image: 51800110532_635f9b74a0_z.jpg]   [Image: 51801788365_60b2e80e2d_z.jpg]

There is still a few adjustments to be made.

- I'm still working on the clips from the belt boxes to the buckle as well as the straps which need to be painted.
- I'll need to cross over my suspenders so they hide behind my chest piece
- Fans
- Knee straps need to be more solid so they don't break

Most importantly my undersuit needs some airbrushing. The thigh pockets are a different colour to the rest of the fabric and I'm dissapointed with the shirt having pin-stripes. My pants also look too purple in real life.

I'm also concerned how bright my green looks on camera, so maybe I will try scuffing it or rubbing it with something to tone it back.

All thoughts and suggestions are most appreciated!
