New Member! (Also going to SWC!)

Hello. I am a new member based in the Brisbane city area whos in their mid 20s. Please call me Anna  Smile

I've not used these kinds of forums in a very long time so please bare with me as i learn how to navigate things.

I met some lovely people recently at Brisbane Supanova and they recommended i start my journey here. I am attending my first celebration in Japan next year and I am hoping to make new friends prior to leaving. I also wanted to ask questions in regards to cosplay - I am currently making a Mara Jade suit based off her Kotobukiya design, from what i was told at Supanova this design currently doesn't have a CRL. i am curious to know if it would be possible for someone to make a CRL of such a design? as i was also told there are some rules around how CRLs are made (it was briefly explained to me). I plan on making the suit regardless of the possibilities as i have already purchased fabric (and i adore the design) but I now plan to also make the Black version of the suit to submit to the 501st when i return from Japan.

in both cases, i feel nervous as i know how to do the sewing parts but not the more technical parts such as armour, leather, sourcing gloves/boots/goggles. Would i be able to get some recommendations on such things?  or guidance please?

I am unsure where to start in the community as i know it takes time to make friends and the convention is only 5 months away now, but i am eager to learn new things and make friends.

Please note that i am Autistic which means i may need extra clarification at times to understand things, thank you Heart

Hey Anna, welcome to the forums! You'll find we're a helpful bunch who will help with armour where we can. I believe a few of our members are going to the Japan celebration so hopefully they'll chime in to introduce themselves.

You'll want the Flagship Eclipse for all things Mara, (https://www.theflagshipeclipse.com/) but Squid is also our resident Mara expert. As far as getting the Kotobukiya costume goes, I haven't got a proper answer. I know extensive photos of the character inspiration are needed covering all details, but I'm not sure if any kits have been approved from action figures (maybe they have, I genuinely don't know). The Costume Review Commitee would be the ones to ask along with the Flagship guys.

Good luck with the build!
