Hey all, been finally tinkering building my sniper rifle for my scout and wanted to show some pics and get some feedback.

Here's the pics.

My question is do you think I should leave the stock as timber look or paint it black like the rest will be?

Dark walnut stain would look best I think.

Nice work Joe. Doppeldaumen1

Try to round off the edges more on the stock, they look too "harsh".

Here is the stock on my T-21, I used a rough bastard file to "carve" it down to shape then went over it with 80grit paper to smooth it out. And it has been stained with a walnut stain.

Cheers guys,

I'll sand the edges more and then use a deep stain of some sort.

If you go for a stain finish, try with a dark stain first and see what you get. Due to the rather golden finish to the timber already, don't trust stain examples that you see at your store as these are based mostly of a pine or tasmanian oak sample. You may need at least 3 coats of stain to get to a true dark finish on that type of timber.

Otherwise what I have found helps get rid of the gold is 1 coat of a redish colour like Jarrah followed by a second coat of walnut or merbau.

well I changed my mind and decided to go with all black.
The stock was cut out of two bits of MDF or something so I figured it would never really look right.

Here's how it looks now.

I still need to weather it but apart from that I'm happy enough.
Should make a decent enough sniper rifle.
